An ash catcher is a device used for water filtration. It functions similar to a bong or water pipe. Glass tubes draw smoke from the bowl in an ash catcher and the smoke is then filtered through the water chamber. So, why do you need an ash catcher? One reason is that ash catchers help keep your pipe clean by removing dirty contaminants from smoke that stick to your pipe. 

By acting as a vessel to trap residue and other harmful substances, ash catchers give you bigger and better-tasting rips. For additional filtration, many ash catchers include scientific percolators which create even smoother hits.
